FAQ

Yes, at this time we are only available within the United States. Our plant sitters are currently focused on providing top-quality plant care services across the U.S., ensuring we maintain high standards and reliable support for all our clients. However, we’re growing - just like your plants! We do have plans to expand internationally in the near future, so stay tuned! If you are outside the U.S. and are interested in our services, we’d love to hear from you via our Contact Page. Your interest helps us plan where to grow next!

Yes! Our platform is currently free for both plant sitters and plant owners (customers). There are no booking fees, membership charges, or hidden costs at this time. You pay, as the customer, only the fees the plant sitter charges to the plant sitter directly.

Great question! Here are how the two account types differ. A Plant Owner Account is for those looking to hire and book plant sitters. You’ll get your own dashboard to manage bookings, send and receive internal messages with your chosen sitter, and cancel or reschedule appointments as needed. A Plant Sitter Account allows you to create and manage plant sitting listings for specific days and times. Your dashboard includes features such as internal messaging with potential customers, Zoom API integration to schedule video meetings before bookings, Google Calendar sync for seamless schedule management, and more. Please note: Each account type requires a separate login. If you would like to both hire and offer plant sitting services, you’ll need to create both a Plant Owner and a Plant Sitter account.

Yes! Our mobile app is available on the Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/house-plant-sitting/id6762391685 and on the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.houseplantsitting.app

While we don’t require insurance, we strongly encourage all plant sitters to obtain general liability insurance or bonding for peace of mind and professionalism. It can help build trust with potential clients and protect against unforeseen incidents.

No, we do not vet or background-check plant sitters. Our platform simply connects plant owners with people offering plant care services. Just like using a classifieds website, we recommend thoroughly reviewing sitter profiles, asking questions, and checking references or reviews before booking anyone. Please do your due diligence in advance.

Trust is key. Here are a few things you can do: Read reviews and ratings on sitter profiles. Ask for references or proof of past experience. Set up a video call or brief meeting before booking. Use clear communication and provide detailed care instructions. Remember, you are responsible for vetting any sitter you choose to work with.

Because our platform acts only as a connector, House Plant Sitting is not responsible for any damage, loss, or disagreements that may occur. We recommend that plant sitters carry insurance and that all users document the condition and care requirements of their plants beforehand.

Yes! Each plant sitter sets their own rates and availability. You can message them directly to confirm pricing, services offered, and any custom requests.

Currently, HousePlantSitting.com does not process or accept online payments. All payments must be arranged directly between the plant owner and the sitter, typically handled in person or through a mutually agreed method (such as cash, Venmo, Zelle, etc.). We recommend confirming payment details before finalizing a booking. In the near future, we plan to implement secure online payments to make transactions smoother and more convenient for both parties. Please note: HousePlantSitting.com is not involved in the handling of payments and cannot be held liable for any disputes, losses, or issues that may arise from payment arrangements made between users.

Once you find a sitter that looks like a good fit, you can use our internal messaging system to ask questions, confirm availability, and discuss the details. We also have Zoom built in. Remember to always communicate clearly and share important info before confirming a booking.

Our sitters can watch over a wide variety of houseplants—from succulents and ferns to large potted trees and tropicals. Just be sure to share care details, such as: Sunlight needs, Watering schedules, Fertilizer preferences, and/or Special instructions (e.g., pests, humidity).

That depends on the sitter! Some are happy to watch a jungle, while others may prefer just a few pots. Always ask in advance and make sure the sitter is comfortable with the quantity and care complexity.

Just create a profile, upload a photo, describe your experience and care specialties, and set your availability. We recommend: 1) Listing specific plants you’re comfortable with 2) Setting clear rates 3) Highly Suggested: Obtaining basic insurance or bonding 4) Asking your first few clients to leave reviews to build trust

Yes, we do plan to offer optional background checks in the future as part of a premium sitter verification feature. This will allow sitters to boost credibility on their profiles and give plant owners added peace of mind. In the meantime, we encourage users to do their own due diligence—ask questions, read reviews, and communicate clearly before booking.

In-home care means the plant sitter comes to your house to water or tend to your plants. Plant boarding means you drop your plants off at the sitter’s home, where they’ll be cared for in a new environment. We highly recommend the plant boarding option whenever possible—it’s often easier, safer, and more convenient for both parties.

When you sign up with HousePlantSitting.com, you’ll gain access to your personal dashboard where you can easily manage your plant sitting listings. Your listings will stay up and visible until you choose to remove them. You can also: Receive internal messages from potential clients, Use your Zoom API key to schedule virtual meetings with clients before bookings, Sync your schedule with Google Calendar for easy management, and much more! The dashboard is designed to make managing your plant sitting services as easy and seamless as possible.
