Describe the plant-sitting services you offer
I offer in-home plant sitting for people traveling or otherwise unable to care for their plants. Each visit is tailored to clients’ individual collections and can include checking soil moisture, watering plants according to their specific needs, monitoring for pests, diseases or signs of stress, light pruning, removing fallen leaves, and making minor adjustments to light, humidity, or placement when appropriate. I carefully follow each owner’s instructions and provide photo updates after every visit, so you can travel with peace of mind.
What experience do you have caring for plants?
I care for a personal collection of more than 140 houseplants with a wide range of light, watering, humidity, and soil requirements. I also have experience helping care for houseplants and a small garden at a private home in Fire Island Pines. I’m pursuing a horticulture certificate at Brooklyn Botanic Garden and gaining hands-on experience through volunteer work with the Battery Conservancy, New York Restoration Project, and GrowNYC. My volunteer work includes planting, watering, weeding, pruning, removing invasive plants, and monitoring plant health.
What types of plants are you comfortable caring for?
I’m comfortable caring for aroids and other tropical houseplants, ferns, orchids, succulents (including cacti), and common garden plants. As a passionate plant parent myself, I understand the care and effort it takes to keep plants happy and thriving. I’m attentive to each plant’s individual watering, light, humidity, and soil needs and comfortable following detailed instructions for particularly sensitive species.
What will you do during a typical visit?
During each visit, I carefully follow the plant owner’s instructions and check the soil moisture and condition of each plant before watering. I also inspect leaves, stems, and soil for pests, disease, or signs of stress; remove fallen leaves and other debris; wipe up any spills; and leave the plant area tidy. I handle light pruning, plant rotation, or other requested tasks when appropriate. After each visit, I keep the plant parent informed by sending a photo update and reporting any changes or concerns I noticed.
What makes you a reliable plant sitter?
After many years working as a journalist, I decided to follow my passion and build a new career working with plants. Journalism taught me to be dependable, observant, organized, discreet, and attentive to detail. I take commitments seriously, arrive as scheduled, follow instructions carefully, and communicate promptly if I notice a problem or need clarification. I understand the trust involved in entering someone’s home and always treat each client’s space, privacy, and plants with care and respect.
